Sdg2006 guidelines for 2006 super duper tournament

The tournament starts March 5th, 2006. The cutoff date to sign up is March 3rd, 2006.

There will be a minimum of 2 rounds (preliminary round(s) with pools and one last round with only a single pool), and a great final game. The number of rounds and games per round will depend on the number of players. The pools will be populated considering the current ranking at Super Duper Games (cutoff time: March 3rd, 11:59 pm UTC).

It is decided by drawing lots who is going to play the white, or black pieces, respectively.

The top 2 players of a pool will advance to the next round. Scores and points are being used to populate the pools in a well-balanced manner. However, scores and points will not be accumulated from round to round.

The last round is the one with only 1 pool. After completion of the last round the first and second player will play an additional finale. The winner of this finale will be declared the winner of the tournament.

If necessary to break a tie for first place additional games may be played.

Example: If the tournament has 16 players then there will be 4 pools in the first round with 4 players each. Each player will play 3 games per round, one game against each other player in their pool (i.e. 6 games per pool, 24 games in total in the first round).

ranking

Scores and points (win = 1 pt, draw = ½ pts, and loss = 0 pts) will be recorded. Points have a higher precendence for determining the ranking. To break ties, scores will be considered as well (winning score first). Example:

Rank Score Points
1 40-20 2
2 40-21 2
3 17-31 1
4 20-20 ½

board variants

Both variants (hexagonal and orthogonal) of Abande will be played. The first round will start with the hexagonal board, then after each round the board will be alternated.

Example: With 3 rounds and 1 finale the sequence will be hexagonal, orthogonal, hexagonal, and orthogonal finale. The finale should always be played on an orthogonal board.

time limit

Games move time will be set at 3 days. Players should move as often as they are able to keep the tournament progressing.

If there is an emergency whether personal or technical and need of an extension of time it is at the opponents discretion to decide whether to grant it. Extensions cannot be indefinite; any game that is not progressing and holding up the tournament will be terminated by the tournament director after an attempt to warn the player, with a win being awarded to the player who last moved.

undoing moves

It is allowed to undo your move. But once your opponent makes their next move, you cannot undo your unfavorable move by asking your opponent to undo their move again.

resigning games

It is not considered good etiquette to resign a game. If you are going to lose, wait for the game to end regularly (by a double pass). Please note, once resigned a game may not be resumed or restarted.

If you resign a game your score will be 0 (= zero!), your opponent’s score will be increased by their pieces in hand.

registration

Players may enter by signing up at Super Duper Games. Players may only enter once. Any one found to be playing under more than one identity will be disqualified immediately.

The names of the winner and finalists of each round as well as rankings and crosstables will be listed here.
